You just don’t randomly start listening to Opera, it has to find you

Early morning cloud allurement

A new day dawned upon the Te Kaihōpara crew as David treated us to some 'fresh from the ocean’ Gurnard stir fry for breakfast. I dropped off the skipper and crew at the Captain James Cook Memorial. A few decided to hike around the nearby waterfalls and trails. Only Lynda was fearless enough to decide to trek all the way across to Endeavour Inlet’s Furneaux Lodge. The remainder of the crew decided to meet her at her destination by taking Te Kaihōpara round. As we approached the larger than life entrance towards Endeavour Inlet, Andrea Bocelli’s voice filled the wheelhouse via the magic of bluetooth. Never before have I been inclined to willingly seek out this legendary tenor’s music, but today, it was just perfect.

Freshly baked cheesy scones

Despite missing out on the five hour hike, the remainder of the crew onboard Te Kaihōpara maintained a hedonistic mood as Shazz served up melt-in-your-mouth, cheesy scones. It’s safe to say that there were no leftovers today.

As we were reunited with Lynda at the Furneaux Lodge, I was shocked to see one of the lodge cabin rooves had a thick layer of fresh grass growing on top of it. Jo informed me that over a decade ago they would let goats graze atop the roofs. I’m not sure if she was just messing with me, but I do wish I was alive in a timeline where goats willing graze on top of people’s slanted rooftops.

Land ahoy!

As I write this, we are anchored in Ship’s cove, hoping to stay protected from the oncoming North-westerlies tonight. The boat is gently rolling from side to side as darkness and winds envelope the Marlborough sounds, the Te Kaihōpara’s crew is warm and cozy.

Another adventure awaits tomorrow!
