Fungi for a fun-guy
Pregnant clouds poured rain over Te Kaihōpara as the crew woke up in their sheltered anchorage and discussed the plan of action over hot beverages. Like clockwork, the dreary skies made way for the glorious sun as our expedition team went on our trusty tender, to the nearby hills of Te Kouma harbour. All of the nearby cows (except for one which was quite pregnant and hence couldn’t care less) made a hasty retreat as they didn’t seem to enjoy being disturbed during their daily grass-feast.
Once the race upto the top of the hill and back to the tender was over, (Mick won), we raised anchor and proceeded towards Man O’ War Bay. The sea state was a bit spicy, as a few sick bags were handed out, but, all-in-all, the crew held their nerve as Te Kaihōpara made quick work of the waves and got us to the safe shores of our destination for the night. I brought out my book about local Kiwi Fungi and made sure everyone saw me reading it, thereby, cementing my place as Te Kaihōpara’s sole fungal enthusiast.
Ross and Helen cooked up a storm for dinner as the crew settled in around the saloon, for yet another classic game of golf! (with cards) I maintained decorum as Ross lost miserably and accused Helen of sabotage. Delwyn made up for her last position in the morning race, by winning five rounds of golf quite comfortably. I still do maintain the fact that a winner cannot be crowned, up until at least nine rounds are completed. At the moment, Ross is sulking by sleeping in the wheelhouse. Now that’s golf! (with cards)
