The kiwis have invaded!

Skippers and Chief Mates, Sharon, Jess and Phil all arrived from New Zealand and climbed aboard Salt lines on Saturday, to prepare her for the passage north.  Sunday was spent making final preparations and welcoming our crew on board for Leg 1 of the Australian Circumnavigation.

Monday dawned and Skipper Phil was eager to fuel on the top of the tide which went without incident and we were ready to depart.  Chief mate Jess ran round like a headless chook gathering the last few items on an ever growing list and Sharon began her quick fire apprenticeship with Silver, helping to fit the mainsail.

Ready to depart the Boat Works

Happy crew navigating the Coomera River

The trip down the river was long and slow due to our considerable draft and lack of space under the keel, finally passing through the Southport Seaway as the sun was preparing to set.  The main was hoisted, the sun set and we tucked into dinner before breaking into watches for an evening motor sail.

Our Gold Coast Sunset on night 1

Salt Lines crew enjoying dinner on night one at sea

A spectacular full moon set was quickly followed by a lovely sunrise and we spotted some whales.  What a way to start the day!  Salt Lines out.
