Island of Oz
We awoke from a long deep slumber on Friday morning with the crew all refreshed after a well earned rest. The plan for Friday's adventures was to hike the 4km up to the Homestead on the island. We set off in the morning following the coconut brick road on this island of Oz. As we reached a sign that split the track in 2, some chose the high road and some chose the low road, but we all reached the homestead together(not so on the way back though with some opportunists hitchhiking a lift back in the island ute).
The local caretaker kindly gave us a tour around the 100+ year old Homestead and the surrounding grounds. As he hadn't seen a group so large before we had to take turns looking around the house in case the old floorboards finally decided to give way. He spoke to us about his impressive self sufficient life on the island and his menagerie of goats, peacocks, wallabies, kangaroos, wallaroos and honey bees. The visiting Kiwis(mainly myself) were fascinated at some sightings of a white lipped snake and what I'm sure was a kangaroo tail hopping off into the distance.
With the amount of inquisitive questions Sandie had to ask during our tour of the island, the crew were quickly becoming worried that she might decide to leave us and stay on the island forever. We managed to gently coax her from the vege garden but kept a close eye on her on the way back in case she did a runner.
With the ladies running a quick exercise session on the beach(Sandie winning the press up and plank challenge!) we cooled off with a swim and headed back to the boat to get ready for our next passage.
With a few engine issues and scratching of heads we finally solved the problem and set sail for The Whitsundays.
Q. Will thespian Steve finally get to have his Jack Sparrow moment and run across the white sandy beach? Or will the rain be too heavy to capture his moment in the sun?
Tune in next time.
