Gybing Practise
Ahoy, fellow seafarers and ocean enthusiasts! Chief Mate Jess here, back with the latest chapter in our nautical escapades. If you've been following our journey, you'll know that the winds of fate have been blowing in our favor as we chart our course towards the North Minerva Reef. But as any seasoned sailor will tell you, the winds of change are always on the horizon.
Over the past few days, our crew has been cruising through the open ocean with the ease of seasoned sailors, thanks to the steady southeasterly wind at our backs and our trusty sail selection. But as the conditions slowly began to shift and the breeze started to drop, complacency began to creep in among our ranks.
With the wind veering towards the south and our straight-line course towards the reef in jeopardy, Skipper Sharon made the bold decision to shake things up a bit. It was time for some maneuvers, some changes in sails, and a little shake-up to keep our crew on their toes.
And so, with a few deft gybes and some expert sail handling, we breathed new life into our voyage, giving our crew the opportunity to stretch their sea legs and test their mettle once more. As the breeze steadily dropped, we made the call to shake out a few reefs and deploy the yankee, setting ourselves up for a smooth sail towards our destination.
Now, as we sit snugly in a gentle 15-18 knot east-southeasterly breeze, the North Minerva Reef beckons us with its siren song. Our plan is to time our entrance for high tide tonight, ensuring a safe and smooth passage through the narrow channel.
But before we make our approach, there's one more thing to do – reach out to our fellow sailors anchored in the reef and double-check the safest approach. It's a small world in Kiwiland, and Skipper Sharon's connections come in handy once again.
Despite the beautiful conditions we've enjoyed over the past few days, with temperatures rising and rain disappearing, there's a palpable sense of excitement among the crew as we prepare to drop anchor for the night. Tomorrow promises the chance to explore the vibrant sea life that awaits us beneath the waves.
So, dear readers, as we prepare to embark on the next leg of our journey, I invite you to join us in embracing the winds of change and the adventures that lie ahead. Until next time, fair winds and following seas, me hearties!
Till next time, Jess :)
